What is counselling?

Counselling / therapy offers a safe, and supported space, to work through whatever you want to talk about without feeling judged, or being told what to do. Whether that's struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, a bereavement, or loss, or some other issue with your mental health.

Counselling can help with a range of mental health issues/ struggles.

If you're struggling with your mental health, you may be desperate to feel different. I have seen many times that we just want to be fixed, and as quickly as possible. This is understandable, and I hear a real sense of desperation and urgency. Counselling doesn't offer a quick fix, but fortunately, most of my clients do feel a sense of improvement over time. For some clients this change can feel monumental.

I have seen time and again that clients often seem to grow through our sessions together. Many times clients seem to finish our journey together as bigger people than when they first came to our sessions.
Counselling offers:
-
A safe supportive space to be heard, and valued. You're the expert in your own life.
-
Freedom to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
-
A designated, protected time for you to work on yourself.

As a counsellor, I would say great counselling symbolises change. Some of my clients experience change as a level of resillience to cope with life's challenges. It can look like a sense of feeling calmer, or less overwhelmed. Some clients feel an increased sense of self worth, or self esteem. For other clients, counselling proves a valuable space to feel truly heard- something that may have been rare before counselling, or even for the first time in their lives.
What it can offer is time that is exclusively yours to invest in your own mental health the way you want to. If you're interested in begining this process-
see my availabily and booking page to book an introductory call.

I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

What does counselling feel like?

You may find that counselling can help.
I aim to offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. You should not feel any judgement from me. You should also feel truly heard and understood.

Clients and colleagues have often noted that I offer a reassuring peaceful energy and a certain calmness, that can help them to feel grounded and calmer too.
Often, we can feel that we are not listened to, and that people don't understand where we're coming from, perhaps it's finally your time to be heard?

I won't offer any advice. One of the reasons for this, is I understand that (1) we're unique, and (2) I believe you're the expert in your own life. I really believe it's your path, and your way.
Counselling often helps clients in profound ways.
I have seen time and time again that counselling can really help, by giving you the optimum conditions to grow, develop, and even flourish.

I'm committed to constantly improving and invest heavily in continuing professional development. I want to be the best counsellor I can be, for the benefit of my clients. I also have a genuine desire to continue to develop as a counsellor.

Before training as a counsellor I worked for many years in retail, and customer service.
As a Christian counsellor, my faith forms a large part of my identity. I have worked with people for whom a faith is very important, and with other clients who don’t ascribe to any faith at all. Regardless of what you bring, you will be accepted, respected, valued, and feel heard.

Face to Face
I will soon offer face to face sessions in Ayrshire. Whilst I don't offer this at the minute, if this is something that interests you, please complete this form to be added to a waiting list. I can then contact you once I offer this. -
Online counselling
I offer video sessions via Zoom. Providing you have good internet speeds, and access to a laptop, or tablet- this might be a good option for you. The nice thing about online sessions is that you don't have to travel, and we can conduct our sessions virtually in the comfort of your own home. -
Phone counselling. Some clients find counselling over the phone particularly useful, if face to face and online counselling seems a little intimidating.
-
Walk and Talk-I also offer walk and talk therapy. If you enjoy being outside, or hate being stuck indoors, this can be a good option. We can conduct our counselling session outdoors whilst we walk around a local park. This option is dependant on the Scottish weather of course! Click here to express interest in walk and talk therapy, and I'll get in touch.
Walk and Talk counselling/ Walk and Talk therapy offers a refreshing alternative to traditional face to face counselling sessions, and online sessions. If you love being outdoors, or can't imagine anything worse than sitting still for 50 minutes, walk and talk therapy might be for you!
In walk and talk therapy we both walk together, and conduct our entire counselling session out in the great outdoors. This can feel a little less intense than conventional counselling in a room. We know that a little exercise does us good, as does being outside. So why not contact me to see if walk and talk might be a good option for you.
